Allowances added to the salary
Article 34 of the agreement creates annual service pay. It is a percentage of salary, paid every two weeks, that follows years of service with the RCMP: 1.5% at 4 years, 3.0% at 10 years, 4.5% at 15 years, 6.0% at 20 years, 7.5% at 25 years, 9.0% at 30 years and 10.5% at 35 years.
A member who coaches a new police officer in the field receives an allowance of 4% of the constable's maximum rate during that assignment. Clause 29.01 grants a shift premium of $2 an hour to a member who works shifts, for regular hours worked between 4:01 p.m. and 8 a.m.
During training in Regina, the cadet receives no salary. The RCMP pays an allowance of $1,000 a week, up to $26,000. Our article on RCMP recruitment explains when it must be repaid.
Leave, retirement and health care
The RCMP page gives annual leave according to years of service: 15 days from 0 to 5 years, 20 days from 5 to 10 years, 25 days from 10 to 22 years and 30 days from 23 years.
It indicates retirement with a penalty at 20 years of service, a full pension at 25 years and the maximum pension at 35 years. Police officers and their dependants have access to medical and dental care plans.
The RCMP, the Sûreté du Québec and the SPVM
The three scales do not bear the same date. The RCMP's stops at April 1, 2024, while the Sûreté du Québec (Quebec's provincial police) contract and the SPVM (Montreal police service) agreement set rates for 2026. Premiums also differ from one employer to another. Our article on police officer salary in Quebec gives the Sûreté du Québec and SPVM scales, year by year.
