The CEGEPs that offer Police Technology

The Inforoute FPT names 15 institutions, consulted on October 10, 2026. The École nationale de police du Québec gives the same number.

  • Campus Notre-Dame-de-Foy

Admission requirements

The prerequisite is the same everywhere. You must meet the general admission requirements for college and have passed Secondary IV mathematics, Cultural, Social and Technical (CST) sequence. Each CEGEP then adds its own selection.

The physical tests

Collège Ahuntsic has candidates run for 12 minutes on a 100-metre track. The passing threshold is 2,700 metres for boys and 2,300 metres for girls. Cégep de Sherbrooke calls 200 candidates to its physical tests, based on their academic record. Cégep de Trois-Rivières also requires passing physical abilities tests.

The medical examination

The rule changes from one CEGEP to another. Collège Ahuntsic requires a complete medical examination at a clinic it designates, and its page estimates the medical fees at about $410. Cégep de Sherbrooke writes that medical examinations are not mandatory for its admission.

The driver's licence

Cégep de Trois-Rivières writes that future students would do well to hold a driver's licence and accepts the learner's licence. The École nationale de police du Québec then requires a valid Class 5 or probationary Class 5 licence.

The R score and the required average

Admission to the DEC is based on the high school record. No official source consulted publishes an admission R score for the program. Cégep de Sherbrooke publishes its figures for fall 2026: 354 applications, 96 places, and an overall high school average of 77% for the last person invited to the physical tests. The CEGEP specifies that these figures are benchmarks and do not guarantee admission.

Cégep de Trois-Rivières asks for an R score of at least 25 in only one case: the refused candidate who studies for a year in another program at the college, then reapplies with priority. The CEGEP reserves 10 places for these students.

The DEC R score then counts at the École nationale de police du Québec. The École's ranking score grid gives 50% to the R-ENPQ score, 30% to the situational judgment test and 20% to the mother tongue test. For 2026-2027 admission, the École specifies that the language test is removed from the calculation.

The AEC in Police Technology

The AEC (attestation of college studies) in Police Technology lasts 30 weeks and is offered only in certain colleges, according to the École nationale de police du Québec. This path begins with a promise of employment from a Quebec police force. The École specifies that only certain police forces grant promises of employment.

The mandatory next step at the École nationale de police du Québec

The DEC is not enough. Under the Police Act, every candidate must pass the École nationale de police du Québec's initial training program in police patrol. This program lasts at least 450 hours, spread over 15 weeks, and candidates live on campus.

The École takes in 9 cohorts of 108 students per school year, or 972 police recruits. It requires Canadian citizenship, good moral character, no criminal conviction, a medical examination passed within the 12 months before training and passing the standardized physical abilities test. The application must be filed by May 1.

From July 1, 2026 to June 30, 2027, training fees total $12,562: $4,618 in tuition, $2,370 in teaching materials and related fees, $5,574 in room and board. Added to these are $216 for admission, $189 for the entrance tests and $152 for the physical test.
